STORY: "Mopsie"
Problem: Her veterinarian said "Mopsie, a ten year old cat, was wasting away and would have died if I had not found a way for my clients to medicate her."
Mopsie's diagnosis was Hyperthyroid disease and her medication was Methimazole 5 mg. Her owners were not able to get Mopsie to take her pills. Solution: The vet prescribed a Transdermal Methimazole 5 mg. gel applied once daily. Mopsie began eating the first week after the compounded prescription was started. In a month she was near her normal weight and was eating without gulping her food. Mopsie was no longer startled easily. Her disposition was affectionate and her owners could pick her up and pet her. Her doctor said about the new way of dosing, "Methimazole Transdermal medications don't diminish the quality of the cats life or destroy the relationship between pet and owner." Mopsie’s owners said that the compounded medicine "saved Mopsie's life."
STORY: "Panache"
Problem: Panache a Moluccan Cockatoo needed to take Acyclovir for a viral infection for 10 days.
The dose was 80 mg three times a day for 10 days. The commercial suspension of Acyclovir was not flavored for a Cockatoo's taste. Panache's owner did not want to struggle 30 times to medicate her bird. The veterinarian did not want the relationship between Panache and her owner to be hurt. Solution: A referral to ANIMAL PHARMACY, where a compound of a Pineapple, Pina Colada, and Tutti Frutti flavored suspension of Acyclovir was made. The medication was dispensed in a bottle with a special syringe so the exact dose was easily measured. Panache’s customized medication cost less than the commercial Acyclovir Suspension and her owner was delighted!
Letters to Animal Pharmacy:
Charlie When my cat, Charlie, was diagnosed with thyroid problems, his initial medication was 1/2 a pill twice a day. He found very imaginative places to hide! It took me up to one hour, each time, to find him. We both dreaded the pill routine and my friendly, affectionate cat was spending his days hiding from me. Then my vet suggested I contact you!
Charlie eagerly chews his tuna or chicken treat. He gets his medication without realizing it and I have my happy, loving cat back.
Thank you for your interest and imagination in preparing medications for animals. Your solution to Charlie's problem has eliminated the trauma we experienced with conventional medication. I am grateful.
Checkers I came to you with a problem my cat, "Checkers" and I were having. Her problem was with her anal glands - mine was trying to deal with it. With my vet's permission you concocted a stool softener to help. We tried a couple of them, to no avail. Then you gave us a "fish suspension" which has been very successful. I mix 1 ml with her evening Fancy Feast meal, and presto! We have had no anal problems in months, which helps us both. I hope it will also help others. Thank you so much for your expertise and your caring.
Winter I just wanted to thank you again for the medicine that you prepared for my Chinchilla, Winter. I always struggled giving him his medication. But the peanut-butter flavored medicine that you gave us made giving him his medicine so easy. Thank you!
